Itinerary

DAY 1: PREPARATION AND WELCOME TO MONTE AMAZONICO LODGE - TAMBOPATA

Upon arrival at the airport or bus station, you will be transferred to the offices of Lodge for a final briefing before your adventure begins. We recommend repacking large luggage to store unnecessary items, bringing only essentials for the trip.

Next, we embark on a 2-hour 4×4 wheeled truck transfer to the Tambopata River banks. If traveling by river, the journey may extend beyond 6 hours. From there, we proceed by boat to Monte Amazonico Lodge – Tambopata. Upon arrival, a warm welcome awaits, along with a meal depending on your arrival time.

In the afternoon, join us for an introductory rainforest walk. Encounter diverse wildlife in their natural habitat, including amphibians, mammals, reptiles, and captivating insects.

DAY 2. DAWN AT EL CHUNCHO: MACAW CLAY LICK EXPEDITION

Experience the early morning adventure to El Chuncho, the world’s largest macaw clay lick, starting at 4:30 am with a 1.5-hour boat journey. Along the way, keep an eye out for capybaras, tapirs, and possibly even the elusive jaguar, frequently encountered by our guests with photographic evidence. At the clay lick, witness the spectacular gathering of parrots from 11 species, followed by colorful macaws arriving to ingest clay, vital for their diet and health. On a good day, hundreds of these vibrant birds fill the sky, offering an unforgettable wildlife spectacle. Return to the lodge for breakfast and relaxation.

Afterward, explore the local botanical garden with our knowledgeable guide, discovering indigenous fruit, timber, and medicinal plants. Following lunch, we journey back to Puerto Maldonado by boat, retracing our scenic route. Arrive in the city and conclude your journey with a transfer to the airport, reflecting on the incredible sights and experiences of your adventure at El Chuncho.
