Our journey commences at 7:00 am from the San Pedro station in Cusco, departing for Ollantaytambo amidst picturesque landscapes and a brief 30-minute technical stop along the way. We ascend to Abra de Málaga at 4,316 meters above sea level, where stunning vistas of Peruvian mountains and jungle await after a brief photo stop. Descending into the Cusco jungle, we traverse various altitude zones from snowy peaks to the verdant warmth of the jungle’s edge, passing through Santa María and reaching Santa Teresa. By 1:00 pm, we arrive at Hidroeléctrica for lunch before embarking on our hike.
Beginning at Hidroeléctrica’s train station, our trek follows a scenic path alongside the Urubamba River and train tracks to Aguas Calientes, arriving around 5:45 pm. Here, we settle into our assigned hostels or hotels with free time to relax or visit Aguas Calientes’ hot springs. At 8:00 pm, a delightful dinner awaits, followed by a briefing from our guide about tomorrow’s Machu Picchu visit, promising an exciting start to explore this iconic UNESCO World Heritage site.
Rise early to catch the sunrise over this ancient wonder, where you’ll have the choice to ascend by bus or on foot, soaking in the serene morning atmosphere. After a hearty breakfast at 5:00 a.m., embark on a guided tour starting at 6:00 a.m., delving deep into the mysteries of Machu Picchu’s temples, terraces, and majestic views. Spend your morning exploring at your own pace until around 11:30 a.m., ideal for catching the return train to Hidroeléctrica at 1:30 p.m., followed by a scenic drive back to Cusco
