We embark on an early morning journey from Cusco, starting at 6:30 AM with a pickup from your hotel in a comfortable tourist van. Our first destination is Chinchero, a picturesque village in the Sacred Valley known for its traditional agricultural practices and colonial adobe church built upon ancient Inca foundations. Here, you’ll explore Inca ruins and terraces believed to have been a retreat for Inca Tupac Yupanqui.
Continuing our exploration, we visit Moray, an impressive archaeological site dubbed “The Greenhouse of the Incas.” Its circular terraced depressions served as experimental agricultural fields, showcasing the Inca’s advanced engineering and understanding of microclimates.
Next, we travel to Maras, where thousands of pre-Inca salt pans, known as salineras, have been used for salt extraction for centuries. Fed by a saline spring, this unique site produces naturally pink salt and offers a glimpse into ancient salt mining techniques.
Our final stop is Ollantaytambo, an Inca town remarkably preserved since ancient times. Here, towering terraces and the imposing Sun Temple tell stories of Inca prowess and resistance against Spanish conquest. After exploring the archaeological site, we board the train to Aguas Calientes, where you’ll spend the night before continuing your journey to Machu Picchu.
